The Adventures of Tintin

I loved Tintin as a kid growing up, I read all the books and really enjoyed the adventures. It was a real delight to see it on the big screen. The animation is brilliant and visually it is stunning. Life like while at the same time retaining an extremely close resemblance to Herge’s original art style.

It’s a rollicking adventure with some great action set pieces. Loads of fun, this movie is a must-see for a Tintin fan and is a great film even if this is your first introduction to the character. Trust me, you’ll be hooked.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

I have always loved the Indiana Jones movies, and it was with a bit of trepidation that I went and saw the latest. A long time has passed between movies, and it’s one of those sequels that is so long from it’s predecessor you really have to question if it’s relevant any more.

The movie is good, but the legacy of Indiana Jones movies demands something amazing, and it’s not. While I walked out not really disappointed, because I knew not to suspect that it could possibly live up to the legend, I did wonder if the movie stood completely on it’s own, would it have been as popular. I don’t think so – but then again, this is a unique film in the manner in which it will be judged.

Good but not great, three stars.
