Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

I would not consider myself a Harry Potter fan. I’ve seen all the movies, but I’ve never read the books. Unfortunately with the latest film, having watched the previous movies is clearly not nearly enough to understand what is going on.

Breaking it down to it’s simplest elements the movie is simple enough, but when you try to understand how and why things happen in the universe of Harry Potter – it truly seems like they just make things up as they go along.

Seriously, stuff just seems to happen for the hell of it, and then to make matters worse it’s horribly inconsistent. An example of this is there are three distinct occasions where different characters sustain serious wounds. On the second occasion a magic potion is pulled out of a magical bag (which incidentally always just seems to contain what they need whenever the movie requires something to help move the plot along), and after a few drops the character is healed. However, for no adequately explained reason, this potion is never used again leaving the other two characters to suffer in pain. Bummer.

This movie was painfully slow in the middle section. Seven movies down, I’m so heavily invested in the story it kind of doesn’t matter, I’ll still watch the last one anyway to see how it ends – even if I won’t necessarily understand what the hell is going on.
